Sinopsis

The study explores the socio-economic, psychological, and emotional conditions of elderly individuals who have moved into institutional care. The research seeks to understand the reasons that compel senior citizens to seek shelter in old-age homes, the challenges they face, and the overall impact of such environments on their well-being.The study was conducted among 100 residents of selected old-age homes in Karaikal District using a descriptive-diagnostic research design. Data were collected through a structured interview schedule, enabling both qualitative and quantitative analysis.The study concludes that old-age homes play a vital role in providing shelter, safety, and companionship to neglected elders. Nevertheless, family involvement and societal support remain indispensable for ensuring holistic well-being. The research recommends strengthening family values, improving health and mental care services, and promoting active aging policies to enable senior citizens to live with dignity, security, and self-respect.
