Sinopsis

Aftermath is a novel written by James Lane Allen, first published in 1895. The story is set in the aftermath of the American Civil War and follows two sisters, Lydia and Lucy, as they struggle to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the conflict. Lydia, the elder sister, is a strong-willed and independent woman who is determined to make a success of her life, despite the challenges she faces. Lucy, on the other hand, is more timid and fragile, and relies heavily on her sister for support. As the sisters navigate the difficult post-war landscape, they must confront their own fears and insecurities, as well as the prejudices and injustices of the society around them. Along the way, they encounter a range of characters, from former slaves and Confederate soldiers to wealthy businessmen and politicians, each with their own agenda and motivations. Through it all, Lydia and Lucy must learn to rely on each other and find the strength to overcome the obstacles in their path. With its vivid descriptions of life in the aftermath of the Civil War, Aftermath offers a compelling and insightful look at a pivotal moment in American history.1899. Allen was born on a farm near Lexington, Kentucky. As a young boy, he lived the life of the Southern ante-bellum gentry, but by the time he was a teenager the Civil War and Reconstruction had ushered in a new era for both himself and his family. Later, he moved to New York City to pursue writing full time. Many of his works reflect Kentucky themes. Aftermath is the sequel to Allen?s A Kentucky Cardinal, which established his reputation as a writer with both readers and critics.
